The charism of the Carmelite missionary from Belgium; Rev. Fr. Norbert Joachim triggered a new Christian community in Thekkutheri, Maruthoorkonam in the 1950s. Rev Fr. Norbert OCD was the first Parish Priest of the St. Pius X Church, Thekkutheri. He was the Parish Priest of Mangalathukonam when he thought of starting a new substation in Thekkutheri. Our Patron Saint Pope Pius X is known as the Pope of the Holy Eucharist. His original name was Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto.
He was born on 2nd of June 1835 in Riese, Treviso, Italy. He was the second born of ten children of Giovanni Battista Sarto (1792-1852) and Margarita Sanson (1813-1894). Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto was baptized on 3rd of June 1835. His childhood was filled with poverty and miseries. REV. FR. NORBERT
Rev. Fr. Norbert of Joachim OCD was born on 6November 1892 at Saint-Amand village, Belgium. His baptism name was Jerome Lyman. In some records his name appears as Kamillas.
His parents were Victor Lyman and Leyonid Suveri. After the completion of his primary education, he entered in to the Di calced Carmelite Order at Kortrijk. On 6 April 1910 he received the habit of the Discalced Carmelite Order. He led the new monastic life in the monastery of St. Bridget. His first profession of wows was on 7 April 1911. And his final solemn profession of wows was on 7 April 1914.

RT. REV. BISHOP DR.VINCENT SAMUEL
After the ordination, he served in many parishes of the present Neyyattinkara and
Trivandrum Dioceses as a zealous pastor and missionary. Then he was sent to Rome for higher studies and he obtained Doctorate in Systematic Theology in 1987 from Urban University, Rome. Then he was appointed as Professor in St. Joseph's Pontifical Major Seminary, Alwaye for giving formation to the candidates of priesthood. There he was appointed as the Vice-Rector in 1994. Meanwhile, the Latin Diocese of Neyyattinkara was erected by His Holiness Pope John Paul II dated 14th June 1996 and he was appointed as the First Bishop of the Diocese of Neyyattinkara. Now as the Bishop of Neyyattinkara, he serves about one and a half Lakhs Catholics of both Neyyattinkara and Nedumangad Taluks with powerful spiritual guidance as a good Shepherd and Bishop. His motto is "to serve and save". Let us wish him as he completes 15 year of his Administration as Bishop.
